Remove the caliper pins using a 7mm Allen wrench (they only go to 30-40 Ft-Lbs). These pins should have that silicone grease on them so be careful how you handle the pins coming out. Mount the caliper into a vice so you can see the piston. The caliper body is cast iron (and heavy!) so it won’t break easily.
The pins are mounted in both halves of the caliper and they also run through the pads. The retaining pins in the rear calipers have little 'hairpins' in the inboard end of each pin, which must be removed before the pin can be tapped out ( Figure 4 ).
Your caliper guide pins provide a track for your brake pad or caliper to travel across, as well as keeping them aligned when braking. When a caliper guide pin is damaged or doesn't have proper lubrication, the caliper can bind. This can cause uneven brake pad wear and premature failure.
